Set Up a Wiki Yourself

If you already have a webpub account and are comfortable with unzipping folders, ftping to your web account and changing folder permissions on your web account, you can use these instructions to set up your wiki yourself. If this all sounds unfamiliar to you, you may prefer to use this form to request that we set up a wiki for you.

Begin by downloading the wiki.zip file, which contains all the files you need to set up your wiki. Unzip this file, and ftp the wiki folder it creates to your webpub account. We recommend you put this at the top level of your web account so that your URL will correspond to the examples in our tutorials.

With FTP still open, change into the wiki folder. You need to set file permissions on the folders uploads and wiki.d. In WS_FTP you can do this by right-clicking on the folder name in the Remote Site window. Depending on your version of WS_FTP you then choose Properties or chmod(UNIX) to bring up a window with check boxes as shown below.

Make sure that all boxes in the first two columns are checked and that only Read and Execute are checked in the last column. Click OK.

After you have set folder permissions on both the uploads and wiki.d folders, your wiki is ready to use. Be sure to read the README.txt file in the wiki folder for important information. You should remove README.txt from your web account after you have read it.
