There are several services, many free, which will index your web site and provide a search service for you. In most cases you need to register first and you are then provided with a short snippet of code which you put on your web page. That code creates the search box for your site.
One big difference between these search services is the manner in which they present the search results page (which in all cases resides on the search service's server). The best of the services allow you to customize the search results page so that it looks like the rest of your web site; the worst clutter up your search results page with advertisements over which you have no control.
For more detail about using a search service, including links to several services, read Webmonkey's article Adding Search to Your Site.
