Creating A Backup of Your Course


These directions are for Microsoft Internet Explorer. While the process is similar in a Netscape Browser the individual steps might be different.


Once you have entered the course that you would like to backup, Open the Control Panel.

Click on the Manage Course button.

The Manage Course page will open

Under the Backup Course tab click on th the Create backup link.

The Create Backup page will open.

Type a brief description for the backup in the text box. This description will appear in the backup listing table.

Click Create. When it has successfully completed the backup, click Continue.

This page will load

You have successfully backed up your course.

Notice: You are able to store only 1 course backups per course on the WebCT Server.

It is recommended that after you backup your course you download the backup for storage and then delete the backup from the server.

Tip: You cannot access individual parts of a course through a course backup without first restoring the course to webct. In addition to a course backup, then, you may want to back up individual parts of the course:

  • zip my-Files and download
  • export questions from your questions database
  • export entries from your calendar
  • compile and print or save discussions

To download a backup to your PC:

Select the backup you wish to download by selecting the appropriate radial button.

Select download from the right hand menu

The File Download Window Opens

Click Save

The Save As window opens

In the Save As window browse to the folder where you will store the course backups*.

Give the backup a name that m February 27, 2004 eans something to you.

Click Save.

You have just downloaded the WebCT course backup.

*Note: Now that you have WebCT course backups stored on your PC you should include the folder where you store the course backups in your regular FTP process to backup to your account.
