Transferring Video from Digital Camera to VHS Tape

If you have video on a miniDV tape, you can transfer the video to a VHS tape. You may want to do this if you have exported a finished movie to the camera and now want to transfer it to VHS so that you can watch it using a VCR. Or you may want to do this if you have shot video with the digital camera but do not need to edit this video.

To prepare the camera for transferring video, connect the AC power adaptor, if possible, to preserve the battery. Turn the Power switch to VCR while pressing the small green button (A).

A composite video cable, with a mini-jack at one end and red, white, and yellow plugs at the other end, is supplied with the camera. Use this cable to connect the camera to a VCR.

Open the plastic cover on the side of the camera to expose the connection ports.

Plug the mini-jack end of the composite video cable into the Audio/Video port on the camera.

Turn on the VCR. Plug the other ends of the cable into the Video/Audio In ports on your VCR. If you are using the JVC VCR in Murray 114, these ports are on the front of the VCR.

Be sure that you have set the VCR video mode to receive input from these ports. For the JVC VCR in Murray 114, this means that the front display should show F - 1

If F - 1 is not displayed automatically, press AUX (0) on the JVC remote to select this mode.

Be sure there is a blank tape in the VCR and that the camera contains the mini DV tape with the video you want to tranfer. Open the LCD panel and press PLAY to start playback.

At the same time press the appropriate button on the VCR to begin recording. If you are using the JVC VCR in Murray 114, press the REC button on the front panel.

When you are finished recording, press STOP on both the VCR and the camera. You can now rewind the VHS tape and play your movie using any VCR.
