The Sakai Gradebook can be used to display scores from Sakai tests and quizzes to students, and you can also use it to record and display scores earned on work done outside of Sakai. It can only be used to store and display numerical scores. For more flexibility in posting feedback to students, consider using the Post-it tool.
Log in to your Sakai course and click Site Editor. Click Edit Tools.

The Gradebook tool will be unchecked if you haven't already added it to your course. Check the box and click Continue.

Click Finish on the confirmation screen.
If you would like students to be able to see their Sakai Test and Quiz scores in the Gradebook, you will need to set that up in the test/quiz settings.
Enter the Tests & Quizzes tool and click on the Settings link for the test or quiz you want to appear in the Gradebook.

If necessary, click the black arrow next to Grading to expose the Grading settings. Select Grades sent to Gradebook if you want grades from this test or quiz recorded in the Sakai gradebook. Click Save Settings.

Note that, unlike some of the other quiz settings, you may change this option even after a quiz has been published.
You can manually enter columns in the Sakai Gradebook to record numerical scores for work done outside of Sakai.
Click the Gradebook link in your course and in the Gradebook tool click Add Assignment.
Enter a title for the Gradebook column and a point value (both required). If desired you can also enter a date. Click Submit.

You will see a confirmation that the assignment has been added, and the new assignment will now appear in the Assignments list. Click the name of the assignment to begin entering student scores.
Enter numerical scores in the boxes next to each student's Sakai ID. Click Save when finished.

To see student scores enter the Gradebook tool for your course and click Roster.
Click Grade Options in the Gradebook tool to set grade options. This screen allows you to set percentage values for letter grades as well as determine what students see when they view the Gradebook. Click Save to save any changes you make to the options.
All changes to Gradebook scores which originate from a Sakai Test or Quiz must be done from the Tests & Quizzes tool. To remove a column associated with a Sakai Test or Quiz from the Gradebook, edit the settings of the test or quiz, change the Grading option from Grades Sent to Gradebook to None. Note that you can do this even after an assessment is published.
Changes to a manually created column are done in the Gradebook tool. To remove a manually created column from the Gradebook, click on the name of the column or assignment. On the page for that assignment click Remove assignment from gradebook.
You will get a confirmation screen that you want to remove this assignment. Check the box and click Remove to delete the column from the Gradebook.
The Edit assignment settings link on the Assignment Summary page allows you to change all of the assignment settings you made when creating the assignment.
