Printing to a Public Printer from Mac OS 10.2

Before beginning locate the printer you wish to use. In Pelletier Library, the printers with the red labels (one on each floor) are available for printing from student laptops. Note the Printer Name, Printer IP and Printer Model, displayed on a label on the printer. You will need to enter this information when setting up the printer. Note: Printer information will differ from that shown below.

If this is the first time you have printed to this printer you will need to add the printer to your list of available printers. The instructions below will guide you through the process. You will only need to do this once for each printer you wish to use. If you have printed to this printer before, simply connect your computer to the network and follow the printing instructions.

To add a new printer, connect your computer to the network and open Print Center (located in Applications/Utilities).

Click the Add icon on the Printer List toolbar.

Select IP Printing from the drop-down at the top.

Add Printer Wizard

Enter the Printer IP that you noted from the label on the printer in the Printer's Address box (Printer IP will differ from that shown below). Leave Use default queue on server checked. Select HP from the printer model drop-down and in the list below that select the printer model you noted from the label on the printer (Printer Model may differ from that shown below). Click Add.

Local or Network Printer

The printer you just added will automatically become the default printer for your computer (indicated by its listing in bold). Most likely, you will want to change this. Simply select the printer that you would like as your default printer and click Make Default.

Create a new port

To print to this printer, open any application and select File > Print... Use the drop-down Printer list to select the printer with the Printer IP you noted from the printer label and click Print.
