Scanning Slides

Place the slide in the scanner. Open an image editing program, such as Photoshop or Fireworks. Both programs are available in Murray 116, on the computer connected to the slide scanner.

Click File > Import > Nikon Scan 3.1 on the Photoshop menu to open the scanning software. (In Fireworks click File > Scan > Twain acquire... )

Click the Preview button on the scanning software window to display a preview of the slide, and select the area you would like to scan. You can make adjustments to the way the slide is scanned in the scanning software. For a quick tutorial in scanning basics, see the Webmonkey article, Scanning 101. When you are happy with everything, click Scan. This will scan the slide and open the image in Photoshop.

Close the scanning program. Now you can work with your image in Photoshop. Be sure to save your image when you are finished. If you are working in a lab, remember to ftp your work to your account before logging off the computer.
