To help prevent spam comments from being submitted to your blog you may want to enable authentication on your blog. This will allow you to accept comments from authenticated commenters only - that is, commenters who have logged into an authentication service before leaving a comment. Follow the steps below to enable authentication.
You will first need an account with an authentication service. The default authentication service for Movable Type is TypeKey, and this tutorial assumes you will be using TypeKey. To create a TypeKey account go to http://www.sixapart.com/typekey/ and click the Register Link.
Fill in the TypeKey registration form and click Sign Up. When your account has been created, log in to Movable Type and click the Settings link for your blog.
If you only see links for Setting and Plugins click Switch to Detailed Settings. This will display more links. Click the Feedback link.
On the Feedback page click Setup Authentication.

A new window will open at the TypeKey site. Log in to your TypeKey account if you are not already logged in. Once logged in you will see a confirmation that authentication has been enabled for your blog. Click the return to Movable Type link to complete the set up.
Back on the Movable Type page you will see that text has now been filled in to the box next to the Setup Authentication button.
Before clicking Save Changes at the bottom of the page you may want to change two other settings on this page. Setting Accept comments from to Authenticated commenters only will stop your blog from accepting junk or spam comments. Setting Immediately publish comments from to Any authenticated commenters will allow comments from authenticated commenters to display immediately on your blog.
Click Save Changes at the bottom of this page to save any changes you have made.
The feedback page will now show that Authentication is enabled. You now must click the Rebuild Site button to reflect these changes on your blog. (Note that Rebuild Indexes will not update all your previous post pages - you must click Rebuild Site for your changes to the comment options to take effect.)

Anyone who wishes to leave a comment on your blog will now need their own TypeKey account, and will have to log in to that account before they can leave a comment. The comment form will not appear on a post until they have signed in.
The sign in link will take the commenter to the TypeKey site. Once they enter their TypeKey username and password they will be brought back to your blog post, which will now have a comment form available for that user.
