Originally posted on January 24, 2008Preventative Maintenance On All Presentation ClassroomsMembers of the computing services staff visited every technology equipped classroom over the break to perform periodic maintenance. During the visit the technology in the classroom was checked to confirm:
Problems were addressed at that point to make sure classrooms were ready for the first day of classes. If you are experiencing technical problems with any of the classrooms or presentation spaces please report the problems to User Services at ext 2755 or by email at computing@allegheny.edu. This maintenance is to clean up a few loose ends that linger from the problems experienced yesterday with the server. The password change form will be unavailable until further notice. Original Post - Allegheny Password Change and Hercules Servers Down Originally posted on September 17, 2007Log On to Public Computers Using Your Allegheny UsernameAs of today, 9/17/07, all members of the Allegheny Community must log on using a their Allegheny username and password. The most typical problem being experienced is an inability to log on because the user has not set their password using the online password change form. This form is accessible from any computer on the internet, thus users are encouraged to change their password before heading to a public lab. User Services is ready to help users that do not have access to a networked computer or experiencing problems setting passwords using the online form. Users needing help are encouraged to contact User Services at ext 2755 or better yet visit Murray between 8:00 and 5:00pm Monday - Friday.

For professors, administrators and staff of the College the logging off process is imperative to make sure the computer is set for the next user. If employees leave a public computer without logging off the screensaver will start which will lock out all other users from using the computer. If you encounter a locked computer in a lab or classroom that you are scheduled to use, you can by pass the screensaver by rebooting the computer using the power button. While over time rebooting the computer in this way will take its toll, it is more computer friendly than using the reset button to reboot. Again, the best practice is to always log off the computer when you are finished using it.
