It's Count Day - Datatel Unavailable Starting at Noon

Today, January 30th, is Count Day for this semester. As with other previous Count Days, we use this day to get all the registration/billing/housing information in sync. As part of this procedure we must close down Colleague for a few hours while all the offices do their last minute fine tuning of the data. So please be ready to signoff of Colleague at noon today. If all goes well with the count procedures, Colleague will be back up by Thursday morning. Benefactor users do not have to sign off and may continue to use Benefactor throughout the day.

Datatel access to Datatel is scheduled to resume Thursday January 31, 2008.

Process for Stopping Admin Print Jobs for Datatel Users

Administrative Information Services has created a new process for Datatel users to allow them to stop print jobs spooled to an admin printer. XCAN is a new screen available from all Colleague applications and from Benefactor.

After entering XCAN in the Quick Access box or selecting it from the XPUB menu in Colleague, either type in the name of the printer or select it from the pulldown list.

When you leave the Printer Name field, with tab or enter or clicking elsewhere on the screen, a list of pending print jobs will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

More details are available in the online tutorial.

Enter a Y in the Del column next to any print jobs you wish to delete. You may only delete your own print jobs and no one else may remove your print jobs.

Click save or save all to delete the print jobs. If you do not mark any lines with a Y no print jobs will be deleted.

Preparations for R18

As part of the preparation for our upgrade to Datatel’s Release 18, we have to change the initial Datatel Login screen to include the entries for Release 18 accounts. We will be doing this upgrade remotely today (9/6/07). This update will take affect the next time you reboot your PC.

Here are the changes you have to be aware of when you start UI after this upgrade:

  1. The User ID field will contain "username." Replace this with your user name (e.g. jsmith)
  2. The Database pulldown will contain the following options:
Collive   Use this for R17-our current live Colleague database
    Benlive   Use this for Benefactor
    Coltesta   Use to test R17
R18-Production   Use this for the live system after we move to Release 18 (this is a new choice and not activated yet)
R18-test1   Use this to test R18 (this is a new choice and not activated yet)
  3. The first time you start Datatel, your application will be set at UT. You will have to change the application to either ST, CF, or FR. From the Apps pulldown menu, choose either ST for the Student system, CF for the Financial system or FR for Benefactor. Once you choose one of these, Datatel will remember your choice.
  4. This upgrade will erase any of your UI Favorites and History. You will have to re-populate these if you are using these features.

Please note: Neither Test Release 18 nor Live Release 18 are activated yet, so please DO NOT TRY TO START EITHER Test Release 18 or Live Release 18 until you get the word to do so from Computing Services.

Please pass this information onto your colleagues within your office area. If you have any questions about any of this, please call User Services (x2755). Thanks for your help as we progress through this transition to Release 18.

Datatel Login Problems - Fix Available

AIS has developed a workaround that resolves the continuing login
problems while using User Interface to connect to Datatel. This
workaround will be automatically installed for you upon your next
successful login to Datatel using User Interface. After signing on,
a prompt will indicate that your scripts are out of date and need to
be refreshed. Clicking OK allows your PC to receive new scripts,
after which you will be prompted to restart the Datatel User
Interface software. At that point, if you continue to experience
login issues on that PC, please contact User Services at x2755.

The underlying login problems will continue for any users until they
are able to successfully sign in and complete the script update successfully.

Problem with Datatel Signon

Beginning Monday, August 27th, some users have had problems signing onto Datatel using the UserInterface. After users enter their Username and Password, Datatel returns with a screen stating “You have selected UI, Please wait., and then displays a warning message about no access to tty.

Users have usually been able to eventually logon to Datatel by trying to logon multiple times. If users still can't get on after 5 tries, please report this situation to User Services (x 2755).

Computing Services hopes to have a solution to this problem soon. We will be updating this entry as we learn more.
