Student Equipment Return Requested

Students are reminded to return all computer equipment that was loaned from User Services (Computing Help Office). This includes wireless adapters, network switches, etc. Most of these were loaned to users in houses (& Golfview) with wireless access to use if there computer was not equipped with a wireless adapter. There were also some network switches loaned to residents so they could have more connections in their rooms. Equipment can dropped off at User Services in Murray Hall.

Senior Network Accounts Will Be Removed

Attention Graduating Seniors!

All 2008 graduates will have their network and email accounts purged on August 1st, 2008. It is recommended that you make a copy of your network files before leaving campus. Once the accounts are removed, your Allegheny email address will no longer be available and you will no longer have access to your network files. After 8/1/2008 the network files on hercules will be removed from the system to make room for incoming students. Your Allegheny email address and personal web pages will also be removed along with the network account. The email and network files are available now and will continue to be available until August 1st for access whether you are on campus or off. Use an FTP program to download your files to your personal computer. You may want to copy them to a CD-R so you have a permanent copy. Once your files are burned to a CD they are easily transported and stored. The User Services web site has instructions for using FTP to download your files.

Reminder of The Student Technology Group Meeting

Have thoughts or questions about computing at Allegheny? The Student Technology Group is a great forum for you share your ideas with other students AND representative from Computing Services. The group meets once a month to hear comments and suggestions about computing at Allegheny.

This month's topic is music downloading and the recent RIAA lawsuits on campus. We will look into a campus sponsored registration for a major music downloading site, such as Napster, Rhapsody or eMusic. STG will meet Monday Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in Grounds for Change. Snacks are always provided. E-mail Richard Wozniak (wozniar@allegheny.edu) for more information.
