Updates on Summer Projects

As you know Computing Services spends the summer months on large scale projects which can't be done during the course of the academic year. This summer is no different currently Computing Services is working on projects related to :

  • Upgrade of the Datatel system to bring the campus and development data in to a more unified environment.
  • Expansion of the wireless network to include academic buildings allowing for a more flexible and connected learning environment.
  • Conversion from an on-campus email and calendar system to an off-campus suite powered by Google Apps for Education.
  • Developing a new computer build to be deployed to classroom and public lab computers as they are updated in July and early August.
  • Upgrading Microsoft Office from version 2003 to version 2007.
  • Upgrade from Sakai v2.5 to v2.6.
  • Relocation of offices with the opening of the 454 House, renovations of the office spaces in Schultz Hall and Mathematics's department new home in Arter Hall.
  • We also look forward to hosting the four weeks worth of workshop participants. The workshops run from June 23rd through July 30th. More details are available at http://computing.allegheny.edu/training.

The majority of our projects occur in the background without much notice from the campus community but some are very public and cause a bit of disruption to segments of the community. We appreciate your flexibility and continued support of our collective progress.
