Office 2007 Documents and Internet Explorer

Several users reported problems trying to open Office 2007 documents linked to web sites. When one tries to open a Office 2007 file from the web Internet Explorer treats the file as a .zip. This does not seem to be a problem in the Firefox browser. User Services is working on options to minimize this problem and will update this post with suggested work-arounds.
