Start the Netscape Communicator program. Click on Edit from the menu bar and then select
Preferences.
In the list on the left, double-click on Mail & Groups.
Click on Identity. Under "Your name:" enter your full name.
In the "E-mail address:" box enter your full e-mail address. Allegheny College supplies you with your
email address. It is your user ID followed by @allegheny.edu (do not use spaces). If you do not
know your user ID please contact the Help Desk at x2755.
Click on Mail Server. In the "Mail server user name:" box enter your user ID (DO NOT include the
@allegheny.edu ending).
In the "Outgoing mail (SMPT) server:" box enter smailout.allegheny.edu.
In the "Incoming mail server:" box enter smailin.allegheny.edu.
Start the Eudora program. Click on Tools on the menu bar and then select Options.
In the icon list on the left, click on Getting Started.
Under "Real name:" enter your full name.
Under “Return address:” enter your Allegheny College e-mail address. Allegheny College supplies you
with your e-mail address. It is your user ID followed by @allegheny.edu (do not use spaces). If
you do not know your user ID please contact the Help Desk at x2755.
Under “Mail Server (Incoming):” type smailin.allegheny.edu.
Under “Login Name:” enter your user ID.
Under "SMPT Server (Outgoping):" enter smailout.allegheny.edu.
The only information you need for FTP services is your FTP server name. When your FTP program asks you for
your FTP server name enter hercules.allegheny.edu. This will allow you to send files between your computer and your
student account. You will be prompted for your user ID and password when you use FTP.
