You are encouraged to configure your own computer systems by following the setup procedures outlined here or in the information available at the Help Desk, 111 Murray Hall. If you are having difficulty in setting up your system then a Computer Assistant (CA) will be available to help with the setup process in the evenings. You may also receive help by calling the Help Desk (x2755). CAs work from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and can be reached by calling x2755 during those hours.

Steps to Connect to GatorNet from a residence hall (click here for college owned house information)

Minimum Computer System Requirements
Configure Your Computer System (if it isn't already)
Locate Your Data Jack - plug one end of your network patch cable into the DATA port and the other into the Ethernet network card in your computer
Register - This step must be comp[leted while on campus. Run your web browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator are examples) and you will see the Residence Hall Network (GatorNet) Online Registration Page. If the page does not come up then type in http://resnetreg.allegheny.edu in the Address Bar. If you still do not get the Residence Hall Network (GatorNet) Online Registration Page contact the Help Desk (x2755) for additional help.
1. Enter all of the requested information on the page. The User Name is your Allegheny College email address without the @allegheny.edu. Your Password is your account password. If you are a first time student at Allegheny College this information is mailed to you during the summer. Returning students need to use the password they use to get their Allegheny email.
2. Read the three agreement sections: Allegheny College Computing Policies, Copyright and File Sharing Warning and the Antivirus Software TERMS AND CONDITIONS. You may only continue from this point by agreeing to these by selecting the checkboxes below each section.
3. Click on the Submit button to continue the registration process. If you entered your information correctly you will be prompted to write down a URL for obtaining your free antivirus software. Click on OK and you will be prompted restart your computer. If you have any problems contact the Help Desk (x2755) for additional help.
The URL you wrote down allows you to download the free Trend Micro OfficeScan from our site (if you are using any Microsoft Windows operating system). Follow the instructions when you enter the URL into your Address Bar. In order to continue using our network you must follow the instructions. The software license is only valid during your enrollment at Allegheny College while living on campus. Macintosh users will be directed to go to the Help Desk to get a copy for your computer. If you do not complete this download you will receive a network suspension. We do this to ensure the safety of other users on the network from virus-like activity.
After you restart your computer you will have access to GatorNet within five (5) minutes. Contact the Help Desk (x2755) if you have any problems.
Computer Assistants (CAs) are available during the semester to help students with network related problems. Their hours are between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Set Up E-mail, Newsgroups, and FTP Services

GatorNet Possibilities

Access your favorite Web sites (a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator is needed)
Send and receive e-mail anywhere in the world (an e-mail client is needed and usually comes with your web browser)
Transfer files to and from your student account (an FTP client is necessary such as WS_FTP)
Chat in your favorite chat room and meet new people from around the world (a chat client is necesssary such as mIRC
