You are encouraged to configure your own computer systems by following the setup procedures outlined here or in the information available at the Help Desk, 111 Murray Hall. If you are having difficulty in setting up your system then you may receive help by calling the Help Desk (x2755).

IMPORTANT: Information on connecting your Game System or other device.

Steps to Connect to GatorNet from a College-owned house (click here for residence hall information)
  1. Minimum Computer System Requirements
  2. Configure Your Computer System (if it isn't already)
  3. Locate Your Data Jack - plug one end of your network patch cable into the DATA port and the other into the Ethernet network card in your computer
  4. Obtain your Adapter Address
  5. Pick up a "GatorNet Registration Form" from the Help Desk or register online at http://help.allegheny.edu/gatornet/gatornetreg.php
    (You will need to know your adapter address, the jack you are plugging into and the version of your Operatring System when filling out this form)
  6. Drop off the completed "GatorNet Registration Form" at the Help Desk (you do not need to complete this step if you used the online registration form)
    There are a large number of registrations taking place at the beginning of each semester so please allow for a maximum of 48 hours for initial network access. In most cases a student will have access within 24 hours of registration. Registrations taking place after 3:00 on Monday - Thursday will be considered as if you registered on the following day. Registrations taking place after 3:00 on Friday will be considered as if you registered on the following Monday.
  7. Set Up E-mail, Newsgroups, and FTP Services

GatorNet Possibilities
  • Access your favorite Web sites (a web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator is needed)
  • Send and receive e-mail anywhere in the world (an e-mail client is needed and usually comes with your web browser)
  • Transfer files to and from your student account (an FTP client is necessary such as WS_FTP)
  • Chat in your favorite chat room and meet new people from around the world (a chat client is necesssary such as mIRC
  • Links to other software
