Configuring your Macintosh for TCP/IP networking:
New Macintosh computers include an ethernet adapter that is built into the computer. In some older systems the Ethernet network card must first be installed. Install it according to the manufacturer's directions.
- Make sure your computer is still off and connect one end of the network patch cable to the computer and
the other end to the wall jack. Turn on the computer, log on if required. To set up the network properties, open the Chooser and select System Preferences.
- In the System Preferences panel choose Network.
- Select Automatic from the Location menu and Built-in Ethernet from the Show menu.
- Under the TCP/IP tab, select Using DHCP from the Configure menu.
- Click Apply Now and the server will issue an IP Address. Note, your numbers will vary from what is shown in the image below.
In order to connect your computer to the Allegheny network you must agee to the network usage policies. This includes installing the Allegheny version of Symantec AntiVirus protection as part of the network policy usage agreement. Install disks are available at the computing help desk in Murray Hall.
